Many men ask themselves: What kind of underwear is good for the testicles? The answer depends not only on the material, but above all on how a pair of underwear is constructed.
Manderwear's Five Comfort Dimensions
Chafing, pinching, wedging: many men can report unpleasant experiences with underwear, often affecting the testicular area. The skin there is sensitive. In addition, the position of the testicles can adjust depending on temperature or situation. Good underwear should take these dynamics into account.
Based on typical problems encountered when wearing underwear, Manderwear has derived five comfort dimensions for the comfort of the male intimate area and made them the starting point for a new development. Find out here what importance each dimension has for wearing comfort and how innovative Manderwear men's underwear implements them.

Developed from the perspective of male anatomy. For a new understanding of underwear comfort.
- Freedom of movement: Plenty of room for the testicles – without lifting
- Distance instead of friction: No skin contact between testicles and thighs
- Balanced microclimate: Air circulation and moisture management against heat buildup
- Soft contact surfaces: Outer seams and smooth materials in sensitive areas
- Free construction without disruptive factors: No additional elements in sensitive areas
Comfort Dimension 1: Room for the Testicles & Freedom of Movement
Why this dimension is important
The amount of freedom underwear provides for the genital area, how it positions the testicles, and the resulting skin sensation in the sensitive genital area can influence wearing comfort. The construction of the front area is therefore important.
Little freedom can be perceived as constricting. With a wide cut, the testicles can come into contact with the thighs. Both can promote friction. From our perspective, a comfortable construction requires offering sufficient freedom to the genital area while preventing friction during movement.
Reality Check: How do other underwear concepts handle this aspect?
Many underwear models rely on close-to-body positioning of the testicles with a holding and supporting function. This keeps the genitals close to the body and controls their position more strongly. This can provide support, but it means that only limited additional space is available for the testicles. During movement, this tight guidance can be perceived as restrictive. Pinching, slipping, or the feeling that readjustment is necessary during movement can be the result.
Loose-fitting boxers give the entire genital area a lot of freedom of movement and provide a particularly relaxed wearing sensation. However, due to the lack of a barrier between the testicles and thighs, the testicles can more easily come into contact with the skin of the thighs during movement. Especially in heat or during physical activity, this can lead to friction.
Both approaches show a different field of tension: the close-to-body construction limits the available space, while the very loose construction creates a lot of space but does not keep the genital area away from the thighs.
The Manderwear Solution
The Manderwear Dynamic Gravity Pouch addresses this field of tension. It specifically creates space for the testicles without guiding them tightly to the body through a holding or supporting function. The free space is specifically designed in the genital area due to the cut geometry. This creates space for the testicles without the entire underwear having to be wide-cut. It fits snugly on the legs.
MANDERWEAR combines generous freedom of movement in the crotch with an otherwise close-fitting construction. The goal is to give the testicles freedom of movement while reducing direct contact with the thighs.
Comfort Dimension 2: Less Skin Contact Between Testicles and Thighs
Why this dimension is important
When considering what underwear is good for the testicles, direct skin contact between the scrotum and thighs also plays a role. Especially in warmth, during movement, and with moisture, direct skin contact can be perceived as uncomfortable. From our perspective, therefore, the question of how to avoid this direct skin contact is part of the construction of underwear designed for the testicles.
Reality Check: How do other underwear concepts handle this aspect?
Snug-fitting models often offer a close-to-body fit, but do not necessarily create an additional textile separation between the scrotum and thighs. Direct skin contact can thus persist.
Loose-fitting boxers, on the other hand, offer plenty of room and freedom of movement for the testicles. However, due to their open, wide-cut construction, there is usually no targeted textile barrier between the scrotum and thighs. The additional freedom of movement therefore does not automatically mean a separation of the two skin surfaces.
The Manderwear Solution
The MANDERWEAR construction creates a soft textile barrier between the scrotum and thigh through its cut, which prevents direct skin-on-skin contact and friction caused by it. This keeps the scrotum and thighs separated when sitting, standing, or moving.
Comfort Dimension 3: Air Circulation and Moisture Management Against Heat Buildup
Why this dimension is important
The male body has natural mechanisms for temperature regulation in the genital area. The testicles are located in the scrotum outside the body cavity, where the temperature is typically slightly below core body temperature. This lower temperature level is important for normal spermatogenesis. The skin in the genital area releases heat to the environment through sweating and air circulation. As an "external factor," underwear can influence heat and moisture development – depending on cut, fit, and material.

Reality Check: How do other underwear concepts handle this aspect?
Tightly cut underwear with a close-fitting crotch can promote heat and moisture buildup. This is especially true if the cut lifts and holds the testicles close to the body, or if the skin of the scrotum rests on the thigh. Skin-on-skin contact can lead to an uncomfortable wearing sensation such as stickiness, friction, or even chafing in heat and sweating.
Loose-fitting boxer shorts, which offer the genitals plenty of space, allow for more air circulation in the testicular area in comparison. However, when it's hot, the extra fabric can soak up sweat, making it feel unpleasantly damp on the skin.
Functional fabrics with good moisture management can improve the wearing comfort. However, their moisture-regulating properties can only work optimally where the fabric actually touches the skin. For wearing comfort, the material should therefore not be considered in isolation from construction and fit.
We explain why not only the material, but also the cut is crucial for functional men's underwear in the article Underwear against sweating: Double power through cut and material.
The Manderwear Solution
The goal in developing MANDERWEAR was to create a comfortable wearing experience through a suitable construction and to avoid typical problems such as stickiness, rubbing, and chafing as much as possible.
This is achieved through a specially developed cut that specifically creates space in the genital area. The special shaping gives the genitals freedom of movement and creates a textile barrier between the scrotum and thighs to prevent skin-on-skin contact there. At the same time, the underwear fits snugly on the legs, so that no fabric bunches up.
Thus, MANDERWEAR combines plenty of space in the crotch with a close fit on the legs – for a free boxer short feeling even under tight trousers. Find out more in the article Boxer shorts feeling in tight trousers.
Comfort Dimension 4: Smooth Contact Surfaces & High-Quality Seam Processing
Why this dimension is important
What underwear is truly comfortable for the testicles is not solely determined by the shape of the pouch. The material that directly touches the skin and the processing of the seams also influence how the underwear feels in the sensitive intimate area.
Especially on the testicles and adjacent skin, differences in material quality, surface feel, and seam processing can be immediately perceived. Fabrics can feel very different depending on the fiber and quality – from soft and smooth to rather firm or rough. Depending on their position and execution, seams can be noticeable in the direct contact area.
For underwear that encloses the testicles as comfortably as possible, it is therefore crucial how the contact surface feels directly on the skin and how smoothly it is processed.
Reality Check: How do other underwear concepts handle this aspect?
In many underwear models, connecting seams are located on the inside. This is a proven construction method and completely unproblematic for many men. However, if seams are in the direct contact area of the pouch, they can – depending on their position, processing, and personal perception – be felt when worn.
There are also big differences in materials. Numerous fibers and different fabric qualities are available, from cotton to polyester to modal or viscose. They differ, among other things, in softness, surface feel, moisture behavior, elasticity, and drying speed.
Therefore, for the comfort of the testicles, it is not solely decisive what fiber an underwear consists of. It is also crucial what fabric quality is actually used and how the contact surfaces in the sensitive area are processed.
The Manderwear Solution
Manderwear deliberately moves the seams in the pouch area to the outside. This way, the sensitive skin of the testicles comes into contact with smooth fabric instead of connecting seams. This design decision reduces potential irritations exactly where many men desire the softest, most undisturbed wearing sensation possible.
The material selection also specifically focused on the properties of the direct contact surface. Manderwear uses high-quality modal and viscose-elastane blends. The fabrics offer a particularly soft and pleasant feel, while the elastane content supports the stretchability and shape adaptation important for underwear. In addition, the fabrics used are quick-drying.
Thus, Manderwear combines two aspects that are crucial for direct skin contact in the testicular area: a contact surface that is as smooth as possible by moving the seams to the outside, and a particularly soft, high-quality fabric.
Comfort Dimension 5: Clear Construction Without Additional Inner Elements
Why this dimension is important
An advancement of briefs and slips based on anatomically adapted design are pouch underwear. They aim to improve the wearer's well-being in the front part of the underwear. Various constructions are used here (more on this in our Expert Guide Pouch Underwear – a Construction Comparison). Construction elements in the pouch are common.
Additional internal elements can support certain positioning or guiding of the testicles. At the same time, they often introduce additional fabric layers, seams, or fixation points into an area where many men desire freedom from irritation. Manderwear therefore relies on a clear construction without additional internal elements.
Reality Check: How do other underwear concepts handle this aspect?
Many pouch concepts work with integrated bridges, flaps, or separate holding elements to specifically guide or position the genital area. These solutions can provide certain support, but they create additional constructive elements in the sensitive area. This can lead to new potential for friction or limitations in movement.
The Manderwear Solution
Manderwear, in comparison, relies on less complexity in the intimate area: the fit is created by the interplay of cut, material, and deliberately created free space. Manderwear's pouch does without internal construction elements (bridges, flaps, fixations, etc.). This keeps the sensitive genital area free of additional construction elements.
How Manderwear is Constructed: Our Five Comfort Dimensions at a Glance
| Comfort Dimension | Manderwear | Other Underwear Concepts |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Space & Freedom of Movement | Deliberately created free space in the front for natural mobility | Close-fitting cuts offer support but can limit the available space for the testicles. Wide cuts offer freedom of movement but often do not create a targeted space solution in the front area |
| 2. Textile Separation & Skin Contact | Textile zone between testicles and thighs to reduce direct skin contact | Cuts often do not provide targeted textile separation between sensitive skin areas |
| 3. Body Climate & Air Circulation | Free space in the front area promotes natural positioning of the genitals and thus distance and air circulation | Tighter fits can reduce the distance to the heat zone and make heat/moisture more noticeable |
| 4. Contact Surfaces & Seam Guidance | Outward-shifted seams create a smooth fabric surface on the skin side | Internal seams can be in the direct contact area depending on their position |
| 5. Construction Principle & Inner Elements | Construction without additional inner elements in the sensitive area | Additional elements can be used for guidance or positioning |
